While we're on the subject: Madonna Covers Pantera

Madonna playing Pantera's "New Level" live? Oh yes. Not only is there video of it, but different internet accounts back it up. Perhaps this is due to Monte Pittman, who played with Prong, now playing in Madonna's band. What's next? Sweet scalp tattoos? The Anselmo undercut? A black metal project? Sideburns? Having your guitar player shot? Who knows. Watch and enjoy.

  1. I liked Madonna in her Papa don't preach / Who's that girl / Live to tell period...now she should retire for good, I can't stand her.
Having said that, her stage presence and guitar playing are far better than Anselmo's, and I think she could play a dominant role in Necrophagia.

  2. Question: What exactly would you destroy if Mike Browning gave you the keys to his time machine: Madonna or Pantera?

Maybe the next thing she'll do is give a white pride speech and then pretend to want to fight a black secruity guard.

  6. I think it is good that Madonna decided to play a metal riff, nothing wrong with that.

It's self- referential, and thus post-modern.

  9. Did she pull this off in US too?
I've noticed that many of the 'big acts' of latin american countries currently mix up the shows with a wide variety of watered down popular genres of music, so I'd bet thats got something to do with it too.
On the brighter side, maybe it got some metalhead laid after the show?
    Lets hope.

  13. Her version is better.
    Fuck Pantera.

by the way, "walk" is the most racist guitar riff of all time.

  14. I think if a riff can be homosexual one can be racist.

  15. it totally can! listen to walk and then imagine all the racist behavior that has happened during that song!

  16. This achieves its purpose: to get crossover discussion about the Madonna brand on metal-related context. It doesn't matter if you like her (or her take) or not, the only thing that matters to their marketers is that we're talking about her, we're recognizing who she is, that we're allowing her existence inside our reality. That sort of brand recognition is amazing, and also amazingly dangerous. The best thing to do would be to ignore her and whatever she does, but I understand that a website that is looking for comedy material can't exactly pass on such 'appropriation of metal culture' because it is, indeed, hilarious. Just saying, the fact that you discuss this person here is a win for her, and that's awful.

  17. Frank owes me a new keyboard. I spit Jim Beam and Pepsi all over this one when I read the Necrophagia comment. Thanks, dick. :-)

BTW I can't get the mental picture of Killjoy being a foot shorter them Madonna out of my head.

  18. Helm:
In the spirit of full disclosure I should tell you that M.I. staffers were actually paid a generous fee (exact amount to remain undisclosed) by Madonna's publicist to write this post. This is the sort of thing bloggers have to do from time to time in order to keep such an online presence alive, and is common practice for blogs with readership numbers above the average. Similar arrangements have been made in the past for posts such as the one some time ago regarding Nicolas Cage's son. As such, be on the lookout for more celebrity-laden posts in the future. Hopefully lots of them, if that's the case MI staffers will be easy to spot. We'll be the ones driving the Rolls Royce Phantom's with Obituary bumper stickers.

  19. I hope you didn't think I meant you got paid for this. Cuz if you got paid it's pretty shitty coverage! The brand 'Madonna' should be mentioned at least 3 more times for that block of text, perhaps an upped font, bolded, something!

  20. i'm with krusher on this one. someone needs to pay the guy who killed dimebag to kill this wizened bitch too.

but she does know how to manipulate and suck the money out of the sheepish masses. i bet they love her even more now, 'cause "she can play metal! so fuck off, all you haters!"

i like how the crowd goes "wild", even though 99% of those fashiorexic fags don't even know what a riff is, let alone recognize one. pour napalm on all of you!

  21. I don't care what you guys say.
    I would still fuck Madonna.
You know she is good in bed.

And for her doing a Pantera song?
    I think it's just fine.

    Pantera kind of blows anyways.

I would rather hear Madonna then lame-ass late era Pantera anyways.
